SUMMARY:Citizens Foresight Europe International Workshop – Shaping the Future of Local Governance in Europe: Fueling Citizen Visions
DESCRIPTION:On 9 December 2025, the Citizens Foresight Europe Workshop will take place in Brussels at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). The Citizens Foresight Europe Workshop offers an interactive and forward-looking space for reflection and collaboration on the future of local democracy in Europe.\nOrganised within the framework of the Citizens Foresight Europe project, co-funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme of the European Union, the workshop empowers citizens, local authorities, civil-society organisations, and experts to jointly explore new pathways for democratic engagement and governance.\nThrough participatory foresight and co-creation methodologies, participants will engage in Open Space Technology sessions, an inclusive format that allows everyone to propose, discuss, and shape topics of shared interest related to civic participation and local governance. The event will open with a keynote address by Pierluigi Brombo, Head of Unit for Foresight at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC).\nThroughout the day, with guidance from ALDA facilitators, participants will co-create future scenarios, solutions, and policy recommendations aimed at guiding local authorities, CSOs, and other stakeholders towards more effective, inclusive, and participatory governance practices across Europe. The workshop’s outcomes will feed directly into collaboratively developed policy recommendations providing practical guidance to improve citizen engagement and local governance across the continent.\nParticipation is free and open to all interested stakeholders, including representatives of local authorities, NGOs, youth organisations, and research centres. The working language will be English, and a light lunch will be provided.
